How to Understand Your Skin Type

Understanding your skin type is a helpful first step toward creating a simple and comfortable skincare routine.

Everyone’s skin is different, and your needs can change with age, weather, lifestyle, and daily habits.

Normal skin generally feels balanced, with neither excessive dryness nor oiliness. Oily skin may appear shiny, especially around the forehead, nose, and chin, and can be more prone to clogged pores. Dry skin often feels tight, rough, or uncomfortable after cleansing. Combination skin usually has both oily and dry areas, commonly with more oil in the T-zone and less around the cheeks. Sensitive skin may react easily to new products or environmental changes with redness, dryness, or discomfort.

To get a better idea of your skin type, gently cleanse your face and leave it without skincare products for about 30 minutes. Notice how your skin feels and looks afterward. Avoid judging your skin based on a single day because temporary changes are common.

Once you understand your skin type, choose gentle products that support your skin’s natural balance. Keep your routine simple, introduce new products gradually, and pay attention to how your skin responds. If persistent or concerning skin problems occur, consider speaking with a qualified healthcare professional or dermatologist.
